Kahéhtakon - In the Garden

Our garden is an important part of our family-like environment, in that we spend as much time together outdoors in our yard tending to our garden.

We believe in the “seed to table” approach because it directly follows our traditional and cultural values. In the Spring, we prepare our garden and plant our seeds. In the summer we tend to it, as well as harvest the berries that have ripened. In the Fall, we harvest the vegetables that we have grown and then prepare the gardens for winter. We use what we have grown, and we prepare and eat as a family.

Not only does the garden provide food, but it also provides sensory activities for the children in the form of dirt.

Here is a glimpse of our time in the garden.
