3rd Annual Teiohaháthe Race

The families of Iakwahwatsiratátie joined other Kanien’kéha immersion school’s at the 3rd Annual Teiohaháthe Race in Ganienkeh.

This marked Iakwahwatsiratátie’s second year participating in the all- Onkwehonwenéha event.

The Teiohaháthe Race is named in honour of Jim Thorpe who won two gold medals in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was the first Onkwehon:we to win a gold medal on the USA team. He was from the Sac and Fox Nation in Oklahoma.

Here are some relevant ‘Race Words’ that we use with our families to practice dialogue about racing:

Sewatateweiennatà:’on ken? - Are you (3+) ready?

Teionrerenhstáhkhwa tesaráhta! - Put on your running shoes!

Enhsatkwé:ni! - You can do it! (win)

Tesaráhtat! - Run!

Sénha iohsnó:re! - Faster!

Ó:nen thóha iáhsewe! - You’re almost there!
